FISCHACH, Germany – Müller Group, the largest dairy company in Germany, is adopting two new innovative bespoke tubs for its butter products, containers developed by British packaging corporation RPC Group.
According to an RPC news release from last Thursday, these tubs were created and prototyped at the RPC Superfos Innovation Centre in Denmark. Müller’s Weihenstephan brand of butter will be sold in an injection-moulded tub and lid, while another brand, a private-label product, will come in an injection-moulded tub with a thermoformed lid from RPC Bebo. The latter package will include state-of-the-art decoration by Bebo Print, RPC Bebo’s patented pre-printing technology.
The RPC Superfos Innovation Centre is absolutely sophisticated and very inspirational,” said Martin Kunst, Müller’s senior packaging developer, in a press release Thursday. He added that he is extremely happy with the services and capabilities that his company has received from RPC.
“It is quite exceptional to have access to an advantage of this calibre,” continued Kunst. “We tested a few versions of our pack, and it proved to be truly valuable and useful to produce a small amount of packs, so that we could achieve the perfect solution.”
What makes these packages stand out is their easy handling and their attractive, soft-flowing shape, the release noted. The injection-moulded lids have flaps that make opening and closing simple and reliable, making a convenient clicking sound when they are resealed.
Müller initially hired an external design agency to create the initial design for the containers, the release stated. Then the company worked with RPC Superfos and RPC Bebo to make the design technically feasible.
“We have enjoyed working with RPC on both projects and have experienced seamless communication and smooth project management,” said Kunst. “At all times, all team members knew about all steps of the packaging development project.
“It has been a one-stop-shop experience, even though one of the solutions involved two suppliers.”
Following the success of Weihenstephan butter in Germany, Müller is now considering introducing it, with the new packaging, to a number of foreign markets.
